TUSCARAWAS COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY CENTRAL COMMITTEE
JANUARY 25, 2017
The Tuscarawas County Democratic Central Committee was called to order January 25, 2017, at 6:00 PM, by Chairwoman Martha Campbell. Thirty (30) members were present. Patsy Fragasse led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Martha stated the purpose of the meeting is to make an appointment to fill the vacancy of County Coroner which was created when Dr. James Hubert took another position out of state. The opening to be filled is for the first two (2)
years of the four (4) year term. The final two (2) years of the four (4) year term must be filled by election in the 2018 General Election. Only one (1) candidate for this position has contacted her and that is Dr. Jeffrey Cameron.
Following his introduction, Dr. Cameron explained that he had been contacted by Gail Garbrandt and Belle Everett, informing him of the opening in the Coroner’s position. He explained that he has served as Medical Director of Union Hospital’s Emergency services since 1990. Orvis Campbell praised Dr. Cameron’s professionalism and Andrea Fanti credited the Doctor’s efforts in promoting AED’s (Automatic External Defibrillator) throughout the County. Michele Erwin asked Dr. Cameron if he decided to run for the second half of the four year term, would he commit to run as a Democrat? He said yes, he would. He was then asked if he were to seek the Coroner’s position at the conclusion of the four (4) year term, would he do so as a Democrat and would he commit to support other Democratic candidates? He responded, “Of course”.
Chris Abbuhl made a motion to select Dr. Cameron for the two year Coroner position; seconded by Sandy Cox. Motion passed unanimously.
Bob Mueller made a motion to close the meeting; seconded by Tim Still.
Respectfully submitted by,
Michele Erwin, Secretary
Tuscarawas County Democratic Party Central Committee
